Once the capital city of the powerful South Indian Vijayanagara Empire, Hampi is a World Heritage Site that draws visitors from around the world. Spread over 36 sq km, the ruins of the city display over 1500 monuments set amidst an awesome boulder-strewn landscape along the banks of the Tungabhadra river.
